Politics and Justice

On this tour you will travel throughout the city’s political history. You will see where the Republic of Florence was founded, where it’s first parliament was and how it unfortunately became part of it’s dark history: the Bargello Museum. You will not only see an outstanding collection of Renaissance statues but you will also hear stories of the medieval justice system of crime and of punishment. The tour will then take you to Palazzo Vecchio. For 700 years now it has been witnessing the political history of Florence. Palazzo Vecchio is a fortified palace that became one of the most representative symbols of Florence and those today still functions as its Town Hall. You will experience how the Medici Family used art to express their political power and you will be told how the name of a Secretary of the Republic of Florence, Niccolò Machiavelli, became the synonym of deceit and bad faith.
